Description


The Department of Pharmacology was established with the founding of the college in the academic year 2002-2003. The department teaches pharmacology to third-year students in the Faculty of Medicine and also collaborates with other faculties (dentistry, pharmacy, and medical technology) in teaching this subject.

Vision


To achieve advancement and mastery in the field of pharmacology at the local and international levels, as well as to contribute effectively to scientific research in order to participate in providing distinguished medical services to the community.

Mission


The mission of the department, in collaboration with other departments in the college, is to prepare successful and competent physicians in pharmacology and to develop medical services for individuals in the community. This is achieved through active participation in research and seminars related to pharmacology and other related disciplines to provide quality education in pharmacology and therapeutics to medical and graduate students through the development of innovative teaching methods.

Goals


Enable students to learn about medications and their use in practical and clinical settings in hospitals, integrate this knowledge with other scientific departments in advanced years, learn about important clinical conditions and how to treat them, prescribe appropriate medications, avoid possible side effects of these medications, and choose the appropriate medication for each condition.


Strategic objectives of the Department of Pharmacology

Help students acquire basic knowledge of frequently used drug groups, pharmacokinetics, mode of action, and pharmacological properties.

Ensure a thorough understanding of proper use through learning about side effects, including toxicity, contraindications, and drug-drug interactions.

Ensure that students have a clear understanding of the basics of treatment applied to a wide range of disorders.

Develop courses to suit the needs of the job market.

Enable students to acquire professional skills such as how to write prescriptions correctly and calculate doses for certain important medications.

Achieve academic standards.
